Notice of Natural Gas Odour in Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 6, 2014) - Enbridge Gas Distribution was venting natural gas in the City of Ottawa today and residents may still notice the strong smell of rotten eggs throughout the city.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We provided advance notice of a potential smell to municipal, fire and police in the area. We believe the wind direction has played a factor in the unanticipated spread of the smell, but we are investigating all possible causes.

Controlled venting of natural gas is a standard practice for pipeline construction, maintenance and repair. This work was being conducted to safely energize a new 19-kilometre, 24-inch natural gas pipeline in the City of Ottawa.

Enbridge Gas Distribution will continue to respond to emergency calls and is only taking emergency calls at this time. If residents are concerned there may be a gas leak in their vicinity, they should call 1-866-763-5427 (1-866-SMELGAS).
