TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 28, 2014) - Enbridge Gas Distribution is now providing free home energy audits (valued at $350 each) to up to 500 qualifying home buyers in the Ontario communities it serves as part of its Home Rating Program. With Canadian Environment Week around the corner it's the perfect time to consider the environmental benefit that home energy efficiency measures can have.
"Looking at a home's past energy bill is sometimes only reflective of the past homeowner's lifestyle and energy habits," said Jamie Paris, Enbridge Gas Distribution's Manager, Residential Energy Solutions. "A home energy rating shows the actual energy efficiency of a house, not just the habits of past owners."
An energy audit provides homeowners with an energy rating and recommendations for increasing their home's energy efficiency based on the outcome of the audit. The implementation of these recommendations can help improve the efficiency of the home, and also help reduce energy bills, increase comfort and help the environment.
"Enbridge has long been a leader in energy efficiency programs, saving over seven billion cubic metres of natural gas between 1995 and 2011," said Paris. "Reducing energy use not only makes environmental sense - our free energy audits will help homeowners identify improvements to their home's energy efficiency which, if implemented, will in turn save them money."
To qualify for the Home Rating program, home buyers must purchase a re-sale home that is currently using natural gas for heating and that is located in the communities Enbridge serves. The energy audit request must be in the purchase and sale agreement and must be completed by an Enbridge approved Certified Energy Auditor.
