Enbridge Gas Distribution Employees Pool Together to Clean Up Commute

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - Enbridge Gas Distribution (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB) and its employees will be finding cleaner ways to commute to and from work during the Clean Air Commute 2009, June 22 to 26.

As a proud sponsor of Pollution Probe's 2009 Clean Air Commute, Enbridge and its employees will do their part to reduce smog and fight climate change by carpooling, walking, taking public transit, cycling, driving low-carbon emitting natural gas vehicles or by ensuring their vehicles are tuned up.

Enbridge will encourage employee participation through employee events, information sessions and contest giveaways - to build momentum for defending Enbridge's 2008 Pollution Probe employee participation award. Enbridge employees, like other participants in the Greater Toronto Area, will track their commute on individual diary cards to see their ongoing progress and how much smog they're keeping out of the air. To further enhance Clean Air Commute efforts, Enbridge and other utilities will participate in the 'Utility Cup', a friendly competition that recognizes the utility that engages the most employee participation.

"Enbridge's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is demonstrated in our daily business operations as shown through our award-winning natural gas fueled commercial fleet management program," says Janet Holder, President, Enbridge Gas Distribution. "I'm proud that our employees also actively help reduce air pollutants on a regular basis, as demonstrated by the success of our vanpool program."

The company-supported vanpool program helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 300 tonnes each year. The eight natural gas vans accommodate up to nine riders each and operate out of Barrie, Courtice, Durham, Keswick, Mississauga, Newmarket, Oshawa and Ottawa.

Enbridge's Executive Management Team will also lead by example during Clean Air Commute by driving low-carbon dedicated natural gas vehicles from the company's environmentally-friendly commercial fleet. Enbridge's Ontario commercial fleet earned the first E3 Fleet Gold Rating from the Fraser Basin Council for excellence in environmentally-friendly fleet management. This is the first commercial fleet in Canada to receive a gold rating. Consisting of 812 vehicles in Eastern Canada, including 600 light-duty natural gas vehicles, Enbridge has reduced carbon dioxide fleet emissions by more than 700 tonnes annually.

Enbridge Gas Distribution has a 160-year history and is Canada's largest natural gas distribution company. Enbridge Gas Distribution is owned by Enbridge Inc., a Canadian-based leader in energy transportation and distribution. Enbridge Gas Distribution and its affiliates distribute natural gas to about 1.9 million customers in Ontario, New York State, New Brunswick and southwestern Quebec.
